Movie director Hong Sang-soo plans to seek a divorce from his wife again, so that he can marry his girlfriend, actress Kim Min-hee, according to a newspaper.

Hong, 58, tried to get a divorce from his wife, surnamed Cho, in 2016, but failed to do so.

Sports World quoted an acquaintance of Hong Monday as saying that the filmmaker would seek a divorce again.

"Hong is thinking of marrying his fiancee ― so for him, divorce is inevitable," the acquaintance was quoted as saying. "He hoped for an amicable settlement, but things did not really work out."

The director first sought a divorce settlement in November, 2016, but it ended in a lawsuit with his wife saying she wanted to protect and keep the family.

Hong and his girlfriend have been together since 2015, as they worked on Hong's film, "Right Now, Wrong Then." Hong is 22 years older than Kim.

The pair made their relationship public in 2017.

Hong is the first Korean to win the Best Director award at the Locarno festival for "Our Sunhi" in 2013. He won the Golden Leopard Award for "Right Now, Wrong Then" in 2015 as well.

Kim made her debut in the television drama "School 2"in 1999. Her credits include "The Handmaiden" in 2016.

She starred in many of Hong's films such as "On the Beach at Night Alone" in 2016 and "Claire's Camera" in 2018.
