Actress Kim Yoo-jung has become involved in a project that supports comfort women ― sex slave victims coerced to serve Japanese soldiers during the Japanese occupation period (1910-45).

On Thursday, Kim, 18, posted a photo of a card wallet with a yellow butterfly stitched on it. The yellow butterfly is a symbol of supporting comfort women ― representing a wish to escape from violence and fly.

"Reborn as a butterfly ― 'the third Memory Butterfly Project,'" wrote the actress.

She also uploaded another photograph that reads, "It took 50 years to get lives back after being trampled by Japanese soldiers. They have become grandmothers, but thanks to their courageous testimonies, we now know the truth. Let's shine a light to their world, overwhelmed by darkness."

Kim debuted as a child model in 2003 and appeared in the film "Demilitarized Zone" in 2004. She starred in the KBS2 TV series "Love in the Moonlight" with Park Bo-gum.
