Rescue organizations have issued a warning about wild boars in cities, as October and November are when the animals venture into residential areas the most in search of food.

According to the Seoul Metropolitan Fire and Disaster Headquarters, Friday, it received the largest number of reports on boars during the two fall months from 2011 to 2017.

In the capital, districts having mountains usually have a high chance of boars appearing, including Eunpyeong and Seongbuk adjacent to Mount Bukhan, Dobong and Gangbuk near Mount Dobong, and Nowon close to Mount Surak and Mount Buram.

People reported boars at mountain trails the most with 908 cases, followed by 156 sightings at apartment complexes, 132 on the streets, 93 in other types of residential areas and 58 in parks.

In 2015, there were 364 reports of boar sightings in Seoul; 623 in 2016; 472 in 2017; and 238 as of this September.

"Wild boars usually move in family groups, so several animals are witnessed together," the headquarters said in a press release. "When meeting a wild boar, do not run away or shout. People are advised to look the animal in the eyes, not to move suddenly or try to attack it, and to hide behind big trees or rocks."
