Yang Yoseop from Highlight, who is serving at Gangdong Police Station as part of national service required for all able-bodied Korean men, was on duty at the Lotte Tower fireworks display on Saturday night, a blogger claims.
According to the blogger, Yang was seen monitoring traffic near the tower in Seoul's Jamsil area. The display, one of the most popular events in the city each year, drew huge crowds and heavy traffic. The show started at 8 p.m. and continued about 20 minutes.
Yang was wearing a white mask, a police uniform underneath a shiny yellow utility vest, and was using a walkie talkie amid the traffic, according to photos posted online later that day.
Yang applied to join the National Police Agency for his mandatory duty and started serving with Gangdong police in January. Police duty length is 19 months. Yoon Doo-joon, another Highlight member, applied with Yang, but was rejected from serving with the agency.

An online photo from April showed Yang patrolling streets in the Cheonho area of Gangdong-gu with two other policemen, according to a blogger.
Yang had been part of the four-member boy band since 2017. The stars had performed as BEAST since 2009, but founded Around Us Entertainment in 2016 and debuted as Highlight.
Yong Jun-hyung left Highlight after he was rumored to have been involved in a massive sex video scandal that involved several K-pop stars including Jung Joon-young and Seungri. Yong enlisted in the Army in April, with the allegations against him unresolved.
Highlight is now dormant because all members, except Son Dong-woon, are serving national duties.
