Chines President Xi Jinping began a three-day visit to "best friend" Vladimir Putin on Wednesday with a touch of panda diplomacy and a raft of new Russian Chinese business contracts.
시진핑 중국 국가주석은 수요일 판다 외교, 다수의 러시아 신규 사업 계약건을 들고 '절친' 블라디미르 푸틴 러시아 대통령을 만나러 3일간의 러시아 방문을 시작했다.
The leaders praised their countries' ties during talks at the Kremlin, as Russia and China seek to shore up cooperation amid shared tensions with the U.S.
미국과의 긴장이 고조되는 양국이 협력을 강화하기 위해 노력하는 만큼, 시진핑 주석과 푸틴 대통령은 크렘린궁에서 회담을 가지며 양국의 결속을 칭찬했다.
"President Putin is for me a best friend," Xi told journalists during a joint statement following the meeting.
시진핑 주석은 회담 후 가진 공동성명에서 "푸틴 대통령은 나의 가장 좋은 친구"라고 말했다.
"We decided that we would raise our bilateral relations to a new, higher level ― increasing our mutual support and assistance, and promote our relations in a new era," he said, in remarks translated into Russian.
그는 러시아어로 번역된 연설에서 "상호지원을 늘리고 새로운 시대의 협력을 강화하며 양국 관계를 새로운 단계로 격상시킬 것"이라고 말했다.
Russian President Putin thanked his Chinese counterpart for an earlier loan of two pandas that are being housed at the Moscow Zoo.
푸틴 대통령은 일찍이 중국이 모스크바 동물원에 거주하는 판다곰 2마리를 임대해준 점에 감사를 표했다.
"This is a sign of a special respect, of a special trust in Russia," he said. "When we speak about pandas, a smile always appears on our face."
그는 "이는 러시아에 대한 특별한 존경, 특별한 신뢰의 표시"라며 "우리가 판다 얘기를 할 때마다 웃음이 끊이질 않았다"고 말했다.
The two men signed a joint statement on the development of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation.
두 정상은 중국과 러시아의 전략적 관계를 강화하는 내용의 공동성명에 서명했다.
Major Russian and Chinese companies meanwhile signed cooperation agreements.
그 사이 러시아와 중국의 주요 기업들도 사업협력 협정에 서명했다.
China's Alibaba, Russian mobile phone operator Megafon, internet group Mail.ru and the Russian sovereign investment fund RDIF closed a deal on a joint e-commerce venture.
중국의 알리바바, 러시아 통신회사 메가폰, 인터넷 기업 메일루, 러시아 국부펀드 RDIF가 새로운 전자상거래 합작사를 만드는 내용의 계약을 체결했다.
