Authorities have issued a typhoon warning for Jeju Island and southern parts of the country on Friday as typhoon Danas barrels toward the Korean Peninsula.
제5호 태풍 다나스가 한반도로 빠르게 북상함에 따라 정부 당국은 제주도와 남부지방에 태풍경보를 발령했다.
Danas ― classified as "small," with central pressure of 990 hectopascals (hPa) ― is moving northeast at 24 kilometers an hour from 360 kilometers northeast of Taiwan (as of 3 a.m. of Friday), according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA).
기상청에 따르면 중심기압이 990hPa인 '소형' 태풍은 대만 북동쪽 360km(금요일 오전 3시 기준)해상에서 시속 24km로 올라오고 있다.
The typhoon is expected to affect Jeju on Friday night, make landfall near the southern coastal town of Haenam, South Jeolla Province on Saturday afternoon and cross land to the East Sea by Sunday night.
태풍 다나스는 금요일 밤 제주도를 시작으로 토요일 오후 전라남도 해남을 지나 한반도를 관통하며 일요일밤 동해로 빠져나갈 것으로 예측된다.
Up to 700mm of torrential rain is expected on Jeju and 200-500mm in southern coastal areas and on Mount Jiri, the KMA said. But the typhoon will have limited or no impact on central and northern areas, according to the KMA, which predicts steamy weather for these areas throughout the weekend.
기상청은 제주도에 최고 700mm의 폭우가, 남해안과 지리산 인근에는 200~500mm의 많은 비가 예상된다고 밝혔다. 그러나 중부지방과 북부지방에는 이번 태풍이 미치는 영향이 제한적이거나 전혀 없고, 주말 내내 무더위가 지속될 전망이다.
