Children were making a splash in the water and surfers catching a wave near the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant on Saturday as a beach finally opened to them for the first time since the 2011 nuclear disaster.
토요일, 2011년 후쿠시마 원전 사고 이후 처음으로 인근 해수욕장이 개장하자 아이들은 물놀이하고 서핑족들은 작동하지 않는 후쿠시마 원전 근처에서 파도를 탔다.
A cheering crowd came back to the Kitaizumi beach about 25 kilometers north of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station as the city of Minamisoma officially started to allow people to swim there.
미나미소마 시에서 공식적으로 사람들의 해수욕을 허용하자 후쿠시마 다이치원전에서 북쪽으로 약 25km 떨어진 기타이즈미 해수욕장에 사람들이 돌아왔다.
The beach was very popular among surfers as they had held national and world championships before the 2011 tsunami and nuclear disaster.
이 해변은 2011년 쓰나미와 원전사고가 일어나기 전에는 서핑 세계 선수권대회와 전국대회가 열렸던 곳으로 서핑 애호가들 사이에서 인기가 높았다.
Local resident Sayaka Mori was walking on the beach with her husband and their three children, Kyodo News agency reported. "I grew up while seeing this sea. Coming back here for the first time in nine years, I feel a sense of nostalgia," Mori said with a smile, according to Kyodo.
교도통신에 따르면 이날 현지 주민인 사야카 모리씨는 남편과 자녀 셋과 함께 해변을 걷고 있었다. 그녀는 "저는 이 바다를 보면서 자랐다. 9년 만에 돌아오니 향수가 느껴진다"라고 교도통신에 전했다.
Mori's house, which used to be located near the beach, was washed away by the tsunami.
해변 근처에 있던 모리씨의 집은 쓰나미로 떠내려갔다.
In March 2011, a powerful earthquake and resulting tsunami devastated coastal areas of the north-east, killing about 18,500 people.
2011년 3월, 강력한 지진과 이에 따른 쓰나미가 일본 북동부 해안 지역을 폐허로 만들었고 18,500명의 사망자가 발생했다.
