Daesung, a member of K-pop boy band BIGBANG, said Friday he was not aware that illegal businesses ― including arranging prostitution ― reportedly have been operating in his building in Gangnam, Seoul.
The singer released a statement through his agency YG Entertainment, saying: "I joined the army almost immediately after purchasing the building. The tenants had been running their businesses before I purchased it. I did not know about their illegal activities."
The statement followed a report Thursday claiming four adult entertainment establishments have been operating in the building and prostitution has been arranged there.
Daesung reportedly bought the building for 31 billion won ($26 million) in 2017.
"I would take legal action against businesses that I found to have committed unlawful acts, fulfilling my responsibilities as the building owner," he said.
Daesung began his compulsory military service in March 2018. He will be discharged in December.
Meanwhile, in early July, former YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun-suk was accused of allegedly requesting call girls to entertain foreign investors during a European tour in October 2014. He was booked on July 17.
