Typhoon Lingling is feared to inflict damage on South Korea as it continues to gain strength while moving north toward the country, the weather agency said Tuesday.
제13호 태풍 '링링'이 점차 세력을 키우면서 한반도 방향으로 북상 중이며 우리나라에 직격탄이 될 가능성이 크다고 기상청이 화요일 발표했다.
"The tropical storm, which took shape in the Western Pacific on Monday, is currently tracking north-northwest on seas 650 kilometers south-southwest of Taipei, Taiwan, at a speed of 9 kilometers per hour as of 9 a.m. Tuesday," the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said.
화요일 기상청에 따르면 '링링'은 이날 오전 9시 대만 타이베이 남남동쪽 약 650㎞ 해상에서 시속 9㎞로 북북서 방향으로 이동 중이다.
The typhoon's central pressure was 994 hectopascals (hPa) in its central pressure. and the maximum wind speed near its center was 76 kilometers per hour, with a wind radius of 250 kilometers, the agency said.
태풍 '링링'의 중심기압은 994hPa(헥토파스칼), 중심 부근의 최대 풍속은 시속 76㎞(초속 21ｍ)다. 강풍 반경은 250㎞라고 기상청은 밝혔다.
The tropical storm is forecast to approach seas some 310 kilometers southwest of South Korea's southernmost island of Jeju at around 9 a.m., Friday, and arrive about 110 kilometers northwest of the western port of Gunsan, 274 kilometers south of Seoul, at 9 a.m. the following day, according to the agency.
이 태풍은 계속해서 북상해 대만 동쪽 해상을 지나 금요일 오전 9시께 제주도 서귀포 남서쪽 약 310㎞ 바다, 토요일 오전 9시께 전북 군산 북서쪽 약 110㎞ 바다에 있을 것으로 기상청은 내다봤다.
"Lingling is getting stronger as it is currently passing slowly through seas with high temperatures," Yoon Ki-han, a KMA meteorologist, said.
윤기한 기상청 통보관은 "'링링'은 현재 수온이 높은 해역을 느리게 지나며 점차 강해지고 있다"고 전했다.
When approaching Jeju Island, the typhoon's central pressure is forecast to be 965 hPa, with the maximum wind speed reaching 133 kilometers per hour with a wind radius of 330 kilometers, Yoon said.
제주도에 접근할 때 태풍 '링링'의 중심기압은 965hPa, 중심 부근의 최대 풍속은 시속 133㎞(초속 37ｍ)에 달하며 강풍 반경은 330㎞에 이를 것으로 보인다.
The typhoon, this season's 13th, is likely to affect the country, mainly between Friday and Saturday morning, Yoon said, adding, "It's too early to prejudge its landfall."
윤 통보관은 "이 태풍은 주로 6일 오전부터 7일 낮까지 우리나라에 영향을 줄 것으로 예상한다"며 "상륙 지역은 속단하기 이르다"고 말했다.
The center of the typhoon is expected to be some 40 kilometers northwest of Seoul at noon Saturday, he added. (Yonhap)
