Lotte Group is aiming to improve society with various corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, including gift box delivery, maternity and childcare assistance, and promotion of gender equality, the group said Friday.

According to Lotte, it has been delivering what it calls "pleasure boxes" to underprivileged people since 2013. The boxes include sanitizers and hand creams for female students from low-income families, detergents, lotions and baby products for single mothers, and braille books for the blind.

The group's employees have been holding delivery events four to five times a year, and had this year's third pleasure box event on Aug. 27. At the event, 100 volunteers and Lotte employees packed gift boxes containing food products for 2,500 households.

The group said more than 48,000 boxes have been delivered so far thanks to the help of 2,200 people who have participated in the campaign.

For maternity and childcare assistance, the group launched a CSR campaign for mothers in 2013 and has been building childcare centers near border areas for military families.

Beginning with the first childcare center in Cheorwon County, Gangwon Province, Lotte has opened 16 daycare centers so far near frontline military bases across the country, including Inje and Gosung counties in the province and Baengnyeong Island located near the Northern Limit Line.

Along with the daycare centers, the group is operating multiple programs for pregnant women and working mothers to provide support for mothers in need.

To promote gender equality for children, the group recently launched a series of campaigns, including the publication of children's books.

On April 9, Lotte held a children's book forum in Mapo-gu, Seoul, to help children and teenagers learn about gender equality. At the forum, Lotte Group, ChildFund Korea and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family decided to support more writers to publish books on gender equality and promote more schools to enhance their education programs.

In December, Lotte signed an MOU with the two entities and decided to offer 900 million won ($749,000) by 2021 for the publishing of books on gender equality and set up separate corners for such books at school libraries across the country. (Advertorial)
