South Korea and Saudi Arabia discussed the two countries' future cooperation in various sectors including economy and defense, according to South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thursday.

South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha visited Saudi Arabia Wednesday following her two-day trip to Spain. He first met Saudi Arabia's King Salman in the country's capital city of Riyadh.

Kang and King Salman discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries and developments in the region during the meeting.

"It is my first visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. I immediately felt the strong desire of the Kingdom to develop and change, as well as to move forward towards a more prosperous future under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz," Kang said during the meeting.

After her meeting with the king, Kang joined the 19th South Korea-Saudi Joint Committee where she discussed the two countries' cooperation with Saudi Arabia's Economy and Planning Minister Mohammad bin Mazid Al-Tuwaijri.

The joint committee meeting was an extension of its previous event of the 18th joint committee held in Seoul two years ago.

During the committee meeting, the two sides discussed future cooperation in 21 different fields including information technology, electronic government, health, medicines, education, development, culture, tourism, energy, housing, infrastructure, aviation, satellites, intellectual property and media.

The Korea Institute of Ceramic Engineering and Technology also signed an MOU with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology for cooperation in future energy efficiency.
