CHUNCHEON, Gangwon Province — Legoland Korea Resort will install a new attraction themed after Ninjago with a 20 billion won ($14.8 million) investment to attract a wider customer base to the country's first global theme park, the company said Wednesday.

"Ninjago is the most popular line of Lego in Korea and we are preparing to introduce a thrilling Ninjago ride for 2025," Lee Soon-kyu, divisional director of Legoland Korea Resort, said during a press conference at the resort.

Based on visitors' feedback complaining of the lack of attractions for adolescents and adults, the new ride will be built on 2,644 square meters of land with a 20 billion won ($14.8 million) investment from its parent company and operator, Merlin Entertainments.

As the first global theme park in the country, Legoland Korea Resort strives to differentiate itself from Korea's other amusement parks and other Legoland properties around the world.

For instance, last year it became the first in the franchise to stay open at night to accommodate the lifestyle of Korean children. The resort stays open until 9 p.m. on Fridays and weekends from spring to fall.

Under Legoland's philosophy, "Lego is for everyone," the theme park is also taking several initiatives on inclusion and diversity.

The resort's entire staff, numbering over 500, have completed the autism training and certification program by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards to better serve autistic individuals and their families. It is the first amusement park in the country to have such a qualification.

Also, the resort offers a free online ride reservation system dubbed "Hero Pass" to provide expedited boarding for visitors with disabilities while displaying several mini figures of people in wheelchairs and with assistance dogs to improve representation, Lee said.

The amusement park plans to collaborate with the municipality to promote local festivals and accelerate regional tourism. For example, some performances of the upcoming Chuncheon International Mime Festival will be held on the resort's property in May and June.

Legoland first opened its global Lego-themed amusement park in Denmark in 1968. Legoland Korea is the 10th in the world and the biggest in Asia.

The global resort covers an area of 280,000 square meters and features over 40 rides in seven zones with different Lego themes. It also accommodates 154 Lego-themed rooms and suites.
