The month of May will be filled with a series of romance dramas, along with the long-awaited Disney+ original series "Uncle Samsik."

JTBC's new series "Frankly Speaking" will premiere on May 1. The rom-com series revolves around a news anchor, Song Ki-baek (Ko Kyoung-pyo), who has worked his way up presenting himself as an elite, well-mannered presenter. When he is about to become the primetime news anchor, an incident causes him to uncontrollably speak his mind frankly.

Losing the ability to speak with a filter, Song catches the eye of an enthusiastic TV reality show writer, On Woo-joo (Kang Han-na), who convinces him to star in her show.

The series is led by director Jang Ji-yeon, whose previous work includes the two-part series "Off the Course" (2021).

Actor Jang Ki-yong is making his small screen return with another JTBC romance series, "The Atypical Family," after a two-year break due to his mandatory military service.

The fantasy series, scheduled to start airing on May 4, follows a man, Bok Gwi-joo (Jang), who was born into a family who all possess supernatural powers. Bok can travel back in time but loses his power when he falls into depression.

One day, Bok and his family cross paths with a mysterious woman, Do Da-hae (Chun Woo-hee), bringing changes to their powerless lives.

The series is helmed by director Jo Hyun-tak, who is best known for leading the smash-hit series "Sky Castle" (2018).

TvN is rolling out a new romance series "The Midnight Romance in Hagwon" on May 11.

The melodrama series revolves around a star lecturer, Seo Hye-jin (Jung Ryeo-won), who has made her name in the cutthroat private education field in southern Seoul's affluent Gangnam over the past 14 years. Her former student, Lee Joon-ho (Wi Ha-joon), reappears to disrupt her stable life.

Seo earned her reputation when she helped Lee to get into a prestigious university 10 years ago. But when Lee quits his well-paying job to return to the academy he'd studied at to teach, Seo's life takes an unexpected turn.

Ahn Pan-seok, who is known for leading romance series like "Something in the Rain" (2018) and "One Spring Night" (2019), directed the series.

Disney+'s original title "Uncle Samsik," which created a buzz as actor Song Kang-ho's first series work, is finally set for release on May 15.

Led by director Park Chul-hwan, who previously helmed the Disney+ series "Grid," the drama series follows the story of Park Doo-chill (Song), a shady fixer who goes by the name Uncle Samsik, in the 1960s.

During the country's difficult times, Park's main concern is making sure his family is provided with three meals a day. One day, he encounters an elite idealist, Kim San (Byun Yo-han), who is ambitious to reshape the country's fortunes. These two quite opposite types of people form an unlikely friendship, working together for the country's prosperity.

Netflix will also drop a new Korean original series, "The 8 Show," next month. The comedy series, slated to premiere on May 17, is about eight cash-strapped individuals in a reality competition. Trapped in a mysterious eight-story building, the players must compete in a dangerous game where time is money. To win a large sum of prizes, they do whatever it takes to outlast the other players.

The series, based on the popular webtoon "Money Game" and its sequel "Pie Game" by Bae Jin-soo, is the series directorial debut for filmmaker Han Jae-rim, who is known for the 2013 thriller period film "The Face Reader."

ENA will be releasing a comedy detective series, "Crash," on May 13. The upcoming series revolves around elite detective Cha Yeon-ho (Lee Min-ki) who is newly transferred to the Traffic Crime Investigation (TCI) squad. He was a science prodigy, graduating from a prestigious science university. However, just as he is about to go abroad to study at MIT, he suddenly decides to pursue a career in law enforcement.

With fellow colleagues in the team, led by charismatic Min So-hee (Kwak Sun-young) and veteran detective Jung Chae-man (Heo Sung-tae), Cha must combat the rise of traffic crimes using his skills.

The series is led by director Park Joon-woo, whose previous work includes the hit action series "Taxi Driver" (2021).
