Main opposition Democratic Party of Korea leader Lee Jae-myung said Monday he will honestly deliver the public sentiment revealed in this month's general elections when he meets with President Yoon Suk Yeol this week.

During a phone call Friday, Yoon proposed holding what would be his first formal meeting with Lee since taking office, after congratulating him and other party members on their victory in the April 10 parliamentary elections.

Livelihood matters are expected to top the agenda, aides to Lee said, with Lee likely to bring up his 13 trillion-won ($9.4 billion) universal cash subsidies scheme of distributing 250,000 won to all individuals during the meeting.

"I will honestly deliver the public sentiment revealed in the general elections when I meet the president," Lee said in a party leadership meeting. "Politics must solve the bread-and-butter issues of the people."

Lee added that he hopes the meeting could serve as a watershed moment in restoring politics for the people, stressing that the presidential office, the government, as well as the National Assembly should change altogether for the sake of the people. (Yonhap)
