DeepL, a German-based AI company, launched DeepL Write Pro, an AI-based writing assistant tool to help businesses communicate more clearly, particularly for internal and external communications and contract writing, its CEO said Friday.

DeepL is known for its translation services. With the addition of DeepL Write Pro, the company will be able to offer its existing translation service customers a large language model (LLM)-based writing tool, positioning itself as a comprehensive communication tool provider for businesses, the CEO added.

"DeepL Write Pro is our first LLM-powered product and, as a company, we've been researching it over the last year," Jarek Kutylowski, founder and CEO of DeepL, said during a press conference in Seoul.

"We have been able to create a synergy which matches the accuracy and the reliability of our neural networks known from the translator (service) together with new powerful algorithms for best-in-class quality but also all of those interactivity functionalities that I was talking about."

Unlike existing generative AI tools or grammar correction tools, DeepL Write Pro improves text in real time during the drafting process and provides AI-powered suggestions for words, style and tone, the company said.

Users can further refine their writing while maintaining their intent as the tool supports four writing styles — business, academic, simple and casual — and four tones — friendly, diplomatic, confident and enthusiastic — to help them write in context.

Kutylowski said the company's new tool is designed to help users write quality articles every time.

Referring to maintaining consistent quality in LLMs, Kutylowski said, "You will sometimes get high quality but sometimes you will get hallucinations, you will get lower quality and this is why it was very important for us to custom train our LLMs for those particular use cases to make sure that this accuracy is always guaranteed."

He added they have been developing these services with enterprise customers in mind. The service currently supports English and German, with more languages coming soon.

"We are creating this language AI platform with enterprises and large businesses in mind. We offer this technology that is built on top of many years of experience in AI developed by this world-class team that is passionate about language and an ambition to break down language barriers," the CEO said.
