Happy Bridge, a South Korean reusable cup and container circulation developer, started offering a recycling service at the office of the Korean Standards Association, the company said Thursday.

The service offers reusable cups that feature near-field communication functions. Users can track each cup's use history while the government agency verifies related carbon reduction data via the technology.

"Carbon reduction is necessary under the current industrial trend in [environmental, social and corporate governance]. Also, the carbon border tax in the European Union will be effective starting 2026," Happy Bridge head Park Nam said in a press release.

"Happy Bridge will actively expand its advanced reusable cup circulation service to help the industry better adapt to the trend."

The company added its reusable cup solution also provides related carbon reduction data that can counter the Scope 3 emissions target.

Scope 3 emissions refer to the result of activities from assets not owned or controlled by the reporting organization, but that the organization indirectly affects in its value chain.

Since the Scope 3 emissions also collect data outside a company's direct control, reducing them is often understood to be very challenging.

Happy Bridge is now test-driving its automated processing line to wash more reusable cups and containers in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. The processing history for these cups and containers is also recorded here.

About 200,000 cups can be processed here daily, according to the company.

Happy Bridge offers reusable cups in three different sizes: 12 fluid ounces, 16 fluid ounces and 21 fluid ounces.
