Homeplus has begun its "Summer Super Sale" discount event on Thursday, which is to run until Aug. 14.

The local supermarket chain said Thursday that during the event, it will offer discounts of up to 70 percent on food products like beef and pork as well as vacation items such as swimsuits and water items.

It added it is doing its best to lower the prices of its products not only at offline stores but also online channels to fight the country's inflation.

The sale is the second of its kind at Homeplus this year since it already held a three-week sale in March to celebrate the company's 27th anniversary on March 1.

During the period, the chain's food sales enjoyed a 20 percent jump compared to the previous year. The company's online sales of delivery items also skyrocketed by 70 percent.

Homeplus entered into an advertising contract with Baeksang Arts Awards-winning actor Kim Soo-hyun earlier this year. He now stars in the supermarket chain's summer commercial, in which he runs with other Homeplus shoppers to grab items on sale.

"Homeplus features various products with ideal prices to accommodate our customers' needs in the vacation season," a Homeplus official said. "I hope the three-week sale could help consumers amid this ongoing inflation trend."
