Five K-pop artists from HYBE have received nominations for this year's MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA), set to take place on Nov. 10.
HYBE sub-label Belift Lab's rookie girl group, ILLIT, earned its first nomination for Best Asia Act, as the only K-pop act in the category. This comes only seven months after its debut with the album "SUPER REAL ME" this March.
The group gained global attention with their debut album's title track, "Magnetic," which made them the first K-pop group to enter the U.K.'s Official Singles Chart Top 100 with a debut song. It remained on the chart for three consecutive weeks.
Ador's girl group NewJeans has been nominated in the Best K-pop category, alongside BTS members Jimin and Jungkook, as well as Le Sserafim. This marks the group's second nomination, having been shortlisted in the same category last year.
The five-piece act achieved hits with the single "How Sweet" and Japanese debut single "Supernatural" this year. The group became the fastest non-Japanese artist to perform at Tokyo Dome, one of the Japan's biggest stadiums, in June, selling out all tickets.
This year, two members of BTS, Jimin and Jungkook, made it into the award's Best K-pop nomination separately, competing against each other.
Jungkook, who won last year's award for Best Song with his single "Seven," has scored another hit with his self-written track "Never Let Go." The song topped the iTunes Top Song Charts in 102 countries just three days after its release this June.
Jimin has also been enjoying success with his second solo album "MUSE" and its title song "Who." The song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 and has remained on chart for 11 consecutive weeks, moving up to no. 26 this week.
Source Music's girl group Le Sserafim earned three nominations — Best New, Best Push and Best K-pop — at this year's award.
The group's latest album "Crazy" and its title track of the same name has been gaining ground, landing on no. 76 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
It won PUSH Performance of the Year at this year's MTV Video Music Awards (VMA), which was held last month, performing at its Pre-Show.
Along with HYBE artists, girl group BLACKPINK's Lisa has also earned four nominations for the award.
Lisa's latest collaboration song with the Spanish singer Rosalía, "NEW WOMAN," was nominated for Best Collaboration and Best Video.
She has also received nominations in the Best K-pop and Biggest Fans categories. The contenders for the Biggest Fans category include Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Billie Eilish.
The artist won her second Best K-pop trophy at MTV VMA earlier last month, with her solo song "ROCKSTAR." The song debuted on No. 70 on the Billboard Hot 100 soon after its release this June and has topped the Billboard Global chart too.
