The Korea Times has selected 11 students and one institution as winners of the 13th Global Korea Youth Awards.
Hwang Yu-na, a student at Cheongshim International Academy in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province, won the Grand Prize award, which will be presented by Gender Equality and Family Vice Minister Shin Young-sook, who is serving as the acting minister.
Born to a Chinese mother and Korean father, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership, serving as vice president of the school's student council. With a keen interest in science and astronomy, she actively engages in a range of activities both within and beyond the classroom.
The Korea Times also selected two outstanding students each from the elementary, middle and high school levels.
The winners are Maeng Ye-lin from Seoha Elementary School, Kim Jeong-in from Daap Elementary School, Kim Tae-yang from Wando Middle School, Kim Su-yeon from Murung Middle School, Lee Ji-eun from Doonchon High School and Lee Ji-na from Wonju Finance Accounting High School.
Oh Song-hui from Daeja Middle School won the Special Jury award, while Arabella Nia Joshua from the School of Global SARANG won the Semoon Chang Award presented to students with exceptional talent in foreign languages.
Kim Won-hee from Samgye Middle School received the Korean Association for Multicultural Education Award, while the University of Utah Asia Campus Award went to Shadikhodjaeva Asilakhon Sherzodovna from Sejong Arts High School.
The School of Global SARANG was picked in the volunteer category.
The grand prize winner will receive 2 million won ($1,430) and each of the winners of other awards will receive 1 million won. An awards ceremony will be held on Dec. 17 at the Korea Press Center in Seoul.
