Korea and Japan on Friday discussed efforts to maintain friendly ties under Seoul's acting presidency during a high-level bilateral economic dialogue, according to the foreign ministry.

The two sides held the talks at the Japanese foreign ministry in Tokyo, with the Korean side headed by Kim Hee-sang, deputy foreign minister for economic affairs, and the Japanese side led by Senior Deputy Minister Takeshi Akahori.

Kim said Seoul was "managing state affairs under the acting president system" and pledged to work "to maintain the momentum of friendly cooperation between Korea and Japan, as well as trilateral cooperation with the United States and Japan."

He also requested Japan's unwavering trust and support for Korea's economy.

Both sides reviewed global economic trends and the current state of bilateral economic cooperation. They also exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, including ways to strengthen bilateral and multilateral economic cooperation in various sectors. (Yonhap)
