SPC Group is in advanced talks to build its largest-ever overseas bakery factory in Texas, the United States, to supply quality baked products to more regions across America, the company said Thursday.
The Seoul-based food and beverage firm is negotiating with local authorities there to establish the facility in Burleson, which will span 150,000 square meters. SPC plans to invest $160 million (234.6 billion won) in the project.
Both sides are fine-tuning the details of the investment. They are expected to finalize discussions by the end of January, according to SPC.
The factory will be used to supply bakery products for Paris Baguette, a multinational bakery chain operated by SPC, in America. The company operates some 200 Paris Baguette stores throughout the U.S. and Canada.
However, the company hopes to expand the supply of its bakery products to central and South American countries by utilizing the relative proximity of its new factory in Texas.
The Burleson government will offer a subsidy of $10 million to Paris Baguette in exchange for the investment from SPC. Texas, a major logistics hub in the world's largest economy, is strategically located near numerous states and Central America, making it an ideal location for the project.
Currently, there are around 600 Paris Baguette stores operating in 14 countries worldwide, with the number steadily increasing, particularly in North America. By 2030, SPC aims to open more than 1,000 Paris Baguette stores in the region.
"We have decided to build the U.S. factory to enhance (the) quality of our products and their smooth supply in the territory," an official from SPC Group said.
"SPC Group will continue to raise the awareness of Korean bakery products by successfully finishing construction of the facility."
