The Constitutional Court called for the appointment of the last remaining justice Thursday to restore its nine-member bench to deliberate President Yoon Suk Yeol's impeachment trial.
On Tuesday, acting President Choi Sang-mok appointed two justices to the Constitutional Court, partially meeting the opposition's demand to fill three vacancies on the nine-member panel before a ruling on Yoon's impeachment.
"There is no change in our position that we hope for the prompt completion of the Constitutional Court to ensure a quick trial," Chun Jae-hyun, a spokesperson for the Court, said during a press briefing.
The two appointed justices formally began their duties on Wednesday, and are expected to be assigned immediately to the case hearings.
By law, at least six votes are required to uphold an impeachment motion. Tuesday's appointment of two justices was expected to ease uncertainties over Yoon's impeachment trial.
The court has up to six months to decide whether to remove Yoon from office or reinstate him. (Yonhap)
