K-pop girl group GFriend has reunited as a full group to commemorate its 10th debut anniversary, reigniting excitement among fans who mourned the band's unexpected disbandment four years ago.
The six-member group, known for its energetic choreography and poetic Korean lyrics, prereleased the track "Season of Memories" on Monday. The song is the title track for a commemorative album slated for release next week, Source Music, the group's former agency, said.
"This song is a gift to our official fandom, Buddy," the group said in a statement. "The lyrics reflect our journey and are meant to connect deeply with those who have supported us."
Since debuting in 2015 with the hit single "Glass Bead," GFriend has been celebrated for its signature whimsical girl aesthetic. Chart-topping tracks like "Me Gustas Tu," "Rough" and "Navillera" earned them a dedicated following, cementing GFriend's status as one of the leading third-generation K-pop girl groups.
The group's abrupt disbandment in May 2021, following the expiration of its contract with Source Music — now a subsidiary of HYBE Labels — left fans reeling. Made just days before the group's departure, the announcement sent shockwaves through the industry.
Since then, the members have pursued individual careers. Sowon transitioned into acting, while SinB, Eunha and Umji formed the K-pop trio VIVIZ. Yuju and Yerin pursued solo careers, releasing music that kept them active as artists.
The recent reunion marks GFriend's first group activity in four years while also serving as the milestone of its 10th anniversary.
Debuting live on Sunday at the 39th Golden Disc Awards, the performance of the newly released "Season of Memories" track drew widespread acclaim, with many celebrating the group's long-awaited reunion. Within 24 hours, the performance video amassed over 1 million views on YouTube and climbed to the top of trending video charts.
In addition to the upcoming album's release, GFriend plans to embark on a round of events to celebrate its 10th anniversary, including performing on music shows.
The group will also host a three-day concert, "Season of Memories," at Seoul's Olympic Hall from Jan. 17 to 19. Following the Seoul performances, GFriend is scheduled to tour four cities across Asia, reconnecting with fans and celebrating the group's enduring legacy.
