K-pop boy group n.SSign has opened up about its latest album, "Love Potion," which has been topping local and global charts since its release on Dec. 30, expressing excitement about successfully kicking off the new year.
The new mini-album consists of five tracks, including the title track of the same name, a new jack swing genre song with a retro touch and a groovy melody.
The seven-piece act — Kazuta, Sungyun, Robin, Hanjun, Laurence, Doha and Huiwon — shared that it tried the new genre with the song to bring out the group's unique energy.
"This time, we challenged ourselves with a new genre. We worked hard to bring out a bright yet sexy feel to match the genre and our concept," Kazuta said in an interview through the agency nCH Entertainment.
Huiwon added that they focused on the chemistry between the members to sync together and deliver an energetic performance for the song. "Since it's an exciting new jack swing genre (album), we worked hard to bring out the rhythm," he said.
Doha noted that the song captures each member's interpretation of the genre, adding a variety of colors.
"I felt we could showcase n.SSign's new retro vibes through the new jack swing genre. The highlight of this song is that each member interprets it slightly differently. I think you'll enjoy seeing both the individual charms of each member and how they come together to create n.SSign's overall appeal," he said.
The group shared that this album came after a thorough discussion between the members and composer Yoo Han-jin, who wrote three of five tracks, "Apocalypse," "Love Potion" and "Running After Love." The group has worked with the composer since its debut song, "Wormhole: New Track," and collaborated for its second mini-album, "Tiger."
"As with all of our songs, Yoo always contemplates carefully about how to bring out our unique strengths best. She tries to spend much time talking with us, and not only shares ideas about the songs but also directly suggests changes to the choreography," Huiwon said.
"Through this kind of communication, it seems she's able to capture and express these insights in the songs effectively."
The new album topped iTunes' album and K-pop album charts in Japan soon after its release. It also topped Korea's Hanteo weekly album chart last week. The members thanked Cosmo, the group's fandom, expressing their hopes to clinch their first win at Korean music shows with this song.
"First, I want to say thank you so much to Cosmo. 2025 is off to a great start. Thanks to our fans, we were able to start on a good note," Kazuta said.
"Our goal for this album's act is to claim No. 1 on music shows. I really want to achieve first place for our Cosmos who always support us enthusiastically."
Hanjun added, "I'm truly grateful to our fans and everyone who loves our music. It feels unbelievable, and I feel such immense gratitude. And I hope that through this promotion period, we can make many memories and happy moments with our Cosmos."
