Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi held discussions with representatives from Japanese companies operating in Korea and Korean firms on Tuesday, focusing on strengthening economic ties and fostering bilateral cooperation.

During the talks, which lasted approximately an hour, Iwaya emphasized the enduring importance of Korea-Japan relations, describing the two nations as crucial neighbors that must collaborate to address global challenges. He highlighted the strategic significance of their partnership amid current international dynamics.

Iwaya expressed his hope for expanded economic collaboration, pledging Japan's support for the business communities in both countries and cooperation with the Korean government. The discussion also covered recent developments in bilateral business activities and broader economic cooperation.

Upon arrival in Seoul, Iwaya paid respects at Seoul National Cemetery and met with National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik on Monday to discuss bilateral relations. On Tuesday, he held talks with Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul and acting President Choi Sang-mok.

Iwaya's two-day visit to Seoul marks the first visit by a Japanese foreign minister in nearly seven years. The visit is part of Iwaya's four-day regional tour, which includes stops in the Philippines and Palau.
