Kang Dong-hun grabbed bronze in the men's snowboard big air event at the Asian Winter Games on Monday for his second medal at the competition.
Kang scored a combined 158.75 points after three runs to finish in third place behind Yang Wenlong of China (193.25) and Jiang Xinjie of China (160.25) at Yabuli Ski Resort, some 200 kilometers southeast of the main host city of Harbin.
Kang was the bronze medalist in the men's slopestyle event on Saturday, with teammate Lee Chae-un winning gold.
The men's and women's big air events made their Asian Games debut Monday. Snowboarders each performed three runs and only their two highest scores were combined for the final score.
Kang scored 77.75 points to place third after the first run, and earned 80.25 points to stay in third place. He then posted 78.50 points in the final run, and the total of his two best scores, 158.75 points, kept him in third place.
Yang had 95.50 points in the first run and then 97.75 points in the third run. Jiang had 83.25 points in the first run and 77.00 points in the next one.
Korea had counted on Lee Dong-heon to contend for a medal, too, but Lee did not compete on Monday after suffering an injury during training.
In the women's big air also held Monday, Korea's Yu Seung-eun finished in fourth place with 119.25 points, 15.25 points behind the bronze medalist from Japan, Suzuka Ishimoto.
Xiong Shirui of China won the gold medal with 164.00 points as China swept the two big air titles on Monday. Another Chinese athlete, Zhang Xiaonan, got the silver medal with 156.75 points. (Yonhap)
