The state weather agency issued a fine dust warning in Gwangju, Jeju Island and other southern parts of the country on Sunday as toxic yellow dust blew in from China.
A pro baseball game in Gwangju was canceled.
The fine dust index also plunged to “bad” or `“seriously bad” in other areas.
The Korea Meteorological Administration issued the warning in Gwangju at noon and South Jeolla Province at 1 p.m. as fine dust density per cubic meter surpassed 300 micrograms for two hours. The warning was in place as of 4 p.m.
It was the first warning for Gwangju and South Jeolla province this year.
