South Korea and the U.S. have sent eight combat jets into the sky to show North Korea the allied nations' military power and hopefully thwart the North's anticipated attack threatened for Saturday evening.

Four F-16 fighter jets from the United States Forces Korea and four F-15K combat jets from the South Korean Air Force participated in a combat drill earlier Saturday, an official from South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff was quoted as saying by media reports. The drill simulated bombing of enemy targets, the official added.

The drill, according to the official, was executed to "show off the might of South Korea and U.S. combined air power" and the allied powers' "resolute determination that any kind of North Korean provocation will not be tolerated.
