Texas Rangers' Choo Shin-soo has become the third South Korean to earn selection to the Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Game.

Choo made the American League roster for the 89th MLB All-Star Game as an outfielder, according to the list unveiled by the league office on Monday (Korean time). The All-Star rosters are comprised of 32 players each for the American League and the National League.

Choo is now the third South Korean to appear at the MLB All-Star Game, followed by Park Chan-ho in 2001 and Kim Byung-hyun in 2002.

Choo, 35, on Sunday set a Rangers' single-season on-base record by reaching base in 47 consecutive games.

Choo has a .293 batting average, .399 on-base percentage and .903 OPS (on-base plus slugging) percentage in 86 games this season.

This year's MLB All-Star Game will be staged in Washington D.C. on July 17. (Yonhap)
