Police have launched a special crackdown on people spreading false rumors on social media about K-pop singer Jung Joon-young's illicit sex videos with at least 10 partners, as the issue has become a hot topic of gossip and rumors have been on the rise on who his celebrity victims were.

Jung illicitly filmed his sexual encounters and shared the videos with his celebrity friends via a mobile messenger, and the prosecution requested an arrest warrant for him to a court, which will review the request soon.

"Recently through social media, there has been a drastic surge in false rumors regarding people suspected of being involved in the illegal footage," the Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) said, Tuesday. "To prevent extra harm to the victims, we ordered all police stations to conduct a special crackdown on people spreading false rumors online."

Ever since Jung's crime became known to the public, there have been endless speculations on his victims. The agencies of the rumored female celebrities said the speculations are groundless and emphasized they would take strong legal actions against defamation.

The police also obtained a report that one of Jung's videos was uploaded in a group chat, and are investigating it.

"Those sharing illicit sex videos in a group chat or sending to others one-on-one are punished for violating the law on sexual violence," the KNPA said. "Those who urge others to upload such files can also be punished for aiding and abetting."

The police will investigate adult sites and P2P file-sharing services and try to trace people involved in circulating the rumors or content.

"Spreading false rumors and illegal videos violates a person's dignity, so we will arrest the people involved in such acts and punish accordingly," a police official said.

Meanwhile, an overseas travel ban was issued for a senior police superintendent surnamed Yoon, who is suspected of shielding illicit activities committed by the members in Jung's group chat, including Jung, Big Bang member Seungri, FT Island member Choi Jong-hoon and Seungri's business partner Yu In-suk.

Yoon was charged with leaking official secrets related to his duties, as he obtained investigation information from Gangnam Police Station on behalf of Seungri and Yu in July 2016 when their lounge bar faced charges for violating the Food Sanitation Act.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency plans to look into Yoon's bank records to see whether he received money from the group chat members in return for favors. Most of the members as well as Yoon admitted they played golf several times and dined together with the police official.

Yoon's wife, a police superintendent who has been dispatched in Malaysia, will also be summoned to Korea for questioning, as Choi told police during an interrogation that he gave her tickets to a K-pop concert held in Malaysia.
