Closer relations between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin is not a win-win partnership, but "Kim's win," according to analysts, who viewed that the Russian leader may later regret his decision to forge closer ties with Pyongyang.
분석가들은 블라디미르 푸틴 러시아 대통령과 김정은 북한 국무위원장의 친선 유대는 윈윈 동맹이 아닌 "김정은의 승리"라며 푸틴은 곧 북한과 긴밀한 관계를 구축한 자신의 결정을 후회할지도 모른다고 전했다.
While North Korea has a lot to gain from Russia such as technological support in advancing its weapons and food supply, the same cannot be said for Moscow as the summit has only highlighted Putin's deepening international isolation.
북한은 무기 및 식량 지원 증진을 위한 기술적 지원 등 러시아에서 얻을 게 많지만, 정상회담에서는 깊어지는 푸틴의 국제적 고립만을 강조했기에 러시아는 북한에서 기대할 게 없다.
According to the North's state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Tuesday, Kim returned home on Monday after completing his "official goodwill" visit to Russia which has "opened a new chapter" in bilateral ties.
화요일 북한 국영매체 조선중앙통신에 따르면 김정은은 양국 관계 강화에 "새로운 장"을 연 러시아 "공식 친선" 방문을 마치고 월요일 북한으로 돌아갔다.
After entering Russia on Sept. 12, Kim met with Putin and visited key military sites, sparking concerns from the outside world that the two sides may strike a major weapons agreement.
지난 12일 러시아로 입국한 후 김정은은 푸틴과 만나 핵심 군사 기지를 방문하며 세간에 양국이 주요 무기 합의를 타결할지도 모른다는 우려를 촉발시켰다.
"It was a successful trip for Kim," Patrick Cronin, the chair for Asia-Pacific Security at the Hudson Institute, told The Korea Times.
패트릭 크로닌 허드슨연구소 아시아태평양안보 석좌교수는 코리아타임스와의 인터뷰에서 "김정은에게는 성공적인 방문이었다"고 전했다.
"Although we don't know the details of what Putin has promised, it's clear that Russia is willing to provide the space program modernization that Kim wants. And undoubtedly, there are other benefits that we'll learn about in the future weeks and months," he said.
그는 "푸틴이 무엇을 약속했는지 구체적으로 알 수는 없지만 러시아가 김정은이 원하는 우주 프로그램 현대화를 제공해 줄 의향이 있다는 것만은 분명하다. 아마 앞으로 수주 혹은 수 개월 내에 우리도 (김정은이 얻은) 다른 이득들이 뭔지 알게 될 것"이라고 밝혔다.
