The Rebuilding Korea Party, led by former Justice Minister Cho Kuk, decided Tuesday to ban its lawmakers from playing golf while parliament is in session, flying business class and owning cryptocurrency.

The party, which secured 12 proportional seats to become the third-largest party in the incoming National Assembly, reached the resolution during a workshop of lawmakers-elect held in the southeastern city of Gimhae the previous day, party officials said.

Lawmakers of the party will also be prohibited from using VIP rooms at airports or making new stock investments and will be required to consult the party in advance before purchasing real-estate properties, officials said.

Cho, a former prominent law professor at Seoul National University, previously served as the senior presidential secretary for civil affairs from 2017 to 2019 under the preceding Moon Jae-in administration.

As one of Moon's closest aides, Cho was subsequently appointed as justice minister in September 2019. However, he resigned in disgrace about a month later following an investigation into an academic fraud case involving his children when President Yoon Suk Yeol was the prosecutor general.

The party had campaigned with calls for bringing an early end to the Yoon administration. (Yonhap)
