The new Renault Arkana was released in Korea recently with three powertrain options and the French carmaker's symbolic diamond-shaped emblem, after the compact SUV changed its name from the XM3 and abandoned its previous typhoon-shaped emblem, Renault Korea said Tuesday.

This came as the 125-year-old company has accelerated efforts to rebuild its corporate identity here by changing its local subsidiary's official name to Renault Korea from Renault Korea Motors this month, two years after it removed Samsung from its corporate name.

"The new Renault Arkana offers various options for each driver's style and taste," a Renault Korea official said. "The car is the outcome of the integration of our innovative technologies. It will add a new dimension to the driving experience of Korean consumers and introduce our brand's value to them."

The new Renault Arkana E-Tech Hybrid not only enables high-speed driving using both its gasoline engine and electric motor, but also allows low-speed downtown driving using the electric motor, preventing noise and emissions.

Renault Korea explained that the model is suitable for drivers who want eco-friendly vehicles with better fuel efficiency. In addition, buyers of the model can select nocturne blue among various color options.

The new Renault Arkana TCe 260 allows more dynamic driving, thanks to its 1.3-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine, co-developed by Renault and Mercedes-Benz. Its delta cylinder head also helps reduce the engine's weight and makes better use of space. The car's maximum power and torque reach 152 horsepower and 26 kg/m.

The new Renault Arkana 1.6 GTe was designed for long-distance drivers and those who prefer comfortable driving in urban centers, as the car's continuously variable transmission enables quiet and smooth driving.
