Big-budget blockbuster films, including Ryan Gosling's new comedy action flick, "The Fall Guy," and the sequel of the hit franchise, "Planet of the Apes," are set to hit local theaters in May.

Based on the popular 1980s TV series of the same name, "The Fall Guy" revolves around Colt Seavers (played by Gosling), a weathered and down-on-his-luck stuntman who has seen better days in his career as an action choreographer.

After leaving the business for a year, he is called back into action to play a double for a famous actor named Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) in the directorial debut film of his ex-girlfriend, Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt). But when Ryder suddenly goes missing, Colt goes on an adventure to find the lead star, placing himself in greater danger than any stunt he's ever performed.

The film, which will roll out on May 1, is led by filmmaker David Leitch, who is known for leading action flicks like "Deadpool 2" (2018) and "Bullet Train" (2022).

"Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," the fourth installment of "The Planet of the Apes" franchise's reboot series, will premiere on May 8.

The sci-fi action film series is about a super-intelligent chimpanzee, Caesar, leading the ape community that stands in conflict with humans to dominate the world.

Led by director Wes Ball, who previously helmed the "Maze Runner" trilogy, the latest installment will pick up about 300 years after the reign of Caesar from the previous sequel. Apes have become the dominant species, driving humans to live in the shadows. In a new era dominated by tyranny, a formidable ape leader named Proximus rises to power, constructing his empire through the ruthless pursuit of humans and the subjugation of rival clans.

When a young ape, Noa, learns of Ceasar's teachings, he embarks on a journey with a human girl, Mae (Freya Allan), to determine the future of both apes and humans.

The film "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga," a spin-off prequel to the 2015 "Mad Max: Fury Road," is also set to roll out next month.

The dystopian action flick, set 45 years after the collapse of civilization, revolves around a young girl named Imperator Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy). Snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers, she falls into the hands of a great biker horde led by the warlord Dementus (Chris Hemsworth).

When two tyrants fight to take over Citadel, Furiosa finds herself in a nonstop battle to make her way home.

The upcoming film is led by director George Miller, who has previously led a few "Mad Max" series, including "Mad Max: Fury Road."

Alongside the action-packed blockbusters, local thriller and drama films are also slated to hit local theaters.

The mystery thriller film, "Following," scheduled to release next month, revolves around Realtor Jeong-tae (Byun Yo-han) with a perverted hobby. He enjoys sneaking into other people's houses to peep into their lives using the keys his client left for him.

One day, a social media star, So-ra (Shin Hye-sun) catches his eye, leading him to make frequent visits to her house. Upon discovering her lifeless body in the house, he opts not to report it, triggering threats regarding his secret hobby. As homicide detective Oh Yeong-joo (played by Lee El) delves into the investigation, Jeong-tae realizes he must uncover the true culprit to exonerate himself.

This film will be a directorial debut for newcomer Kim Se-hwi, who previously took part in writing the script for the war action film, "Operation Chromite" (2016).

The drama romance film, "Unknown," set for release on May 8, follows different individuals dealing with grief, trauma, and love.

The story revolves around Ji-soo (portrayed by Kwon Ip-sae), who grapples with heartbreak following her breakup with Woo-joo (played by Ban Si-on), who is struggling after unintentionally causing a person's death. Meanwhile, Ki-wan (depicted by Park Jong-hwan) becomes fixated on launching a rocket into space.

The film, which premiered at last year's Jeonju International Film Festival, is directed by filmmaker Lee Don-ku, whose previous work includes the 2014 thriller film, "Entangled."
