HS Hyosung Vice Chairman Cho Hyun-sang will assume the role of leading the business advisory council of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) announced, Wednesday.
According to the KCCI, Cho was unanimously elected as the chair of the 2025 APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) at the fourth ABAC meeting held in Lima, Peru, this week. The KCCI serves as the Korean secretariat of the ABAC.
More than 60 members from 21 APEC national and regional members attended the meeting, including Korean members Megazone Cloud CEO Lee Joo-wan, Kolon Group Vice Chairman Lee Kyu-ho and Cho.
According to the KCCI, Cho said that he would "strive to communicate the business community's perspectives to the APEC leaders and work toward enhancing shared values in the Asia-Pacific region."
Cho will deliver the "ABAC Report to Leaders" during a dialogue between ABAC members and APEC leaders at the 2025 APEC summit set to take place between late October and November next year in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province.
Cho will preside over ABAC meetings from February next year to draft the annual report. This year's report contained 26 agendas, including improving the digital trading environment, establishing artificial intelligence governance and spurring the green economy.
Along with Cho, Chey Tae-won, the SK Group chairman and KCCI head, will chair the main session of the APEC CEO Summit, which will be held in line with next year's main APEC summit. Economic events during the APEC summit will take place under the theme of "Bridge, Business, Beyond."
