Ulsan HD FC midfielder Ko Seung-beom has been voted the top player in Korean football for October.

The Korea Professional Football League (K League) announced Wednesday Ko held off Edgar of Daegu FC for the Player of the Month award for October in the top-flight K League 1. This is the first monthly award for the ninth-year pro.

Ulsan played three matches in October. Ko scored a goal in a 2-1 win over Gimcheon Sangmu FC on Oct 6 and had another in a 2-0 victory against Pohang Steelers on Oct. 27. He was named the K League 1 Team of the Week after the Gimcheon match.

The winner was chosen with votes by the K League's technical study group (accounting for 60 percent), fans voting on the K League website (25 percent) and players of EA Sports FC Online (15 percent) by Electronic Arts (EA) Sports, the league's official video game partner.

Ko and Gangwon FC midfielder Lee Gi-hyuk were tied for first in the technical study group voting with 20.77 percent, followed by Edgar with 13.85 percent.

In online fan voting, Edgar led the way with 12.53 percent and Ko was second with 9.65 percent.

In the voting EA Sports game players, Edgar came out on top with 7.79 percent, with Ko coming in second at 4.11 percent.

Ko narrowly beat out Edgar by 34.53 percent to 34.17 percent in total voting points, the narrowest margin of victory ever by a winner of the monthly prize. (Yonhap)
