Civic groups continued to stage rallies for or against impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol on Thursday, a day after he was detained by investigators over his short-lived imposition of martial law.

A network of progressive civic groups, including the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, one of the country's largest umbrella labor unions, said they will continue to hold weekly Saturday rallies near Gyeongbokgung Station until Yoon is removed from office.

They also said they will deliver the voice of the public to the Constitutional Court while it deliberates whether to oust or reinstate the impeached president.

Separately, conservative groups, including members of the Liberty Unification Party, were to stage a rally near the Constitutional Court to oppose Yoon's impeachment.

A conservative group led by pastor Jeon Kwang-hoon said it would hold a rally in front of the Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang, 22 kilometers south of Seoul, where Yoon has been held since Wednesday night. (Yonhap)
