The presidential Office of National Security said Friday it has launched a consultative group to coordinate responses to emerging security threats posed by artificial intelligence (AI).

Wang Yun-jong, third deputy national security adviser, led an intragovernmental meeting with senior officials from seven agencies, including the National Intelligence Service and the ministries of ICT, defense and safety.

"The meeting primarily focused on emerging security issues stemming from rapidly advancing AI technologies, including the recent proliferation of generative AI," the office said in a release.

Wang highlighted the substantial risks associated with AI, such as potential misuse or loss of control, calling for "proactive, national-level responses" to counter evolving security threats, it said. (Yonhap)
