No Korean casualties have been reported in a powerful earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand on Friday, Seoul's foreign ministry said.
A 7.7 magnitude quake and an aftershock measuring 6.4 rocked Thailand and neighboring Myanmar earlier in the day, killing at least two and burying an unknown number of people when a skyscraper under construction in Bangkok collapsed, according to foreign media reports.
The casualties are feared to increase.
"As of now, there have been no casualties among our nationals," a ministry official said. "We will continue to assess the situation in close coordination with relevant authorities and Korean communities there."
Some 2,000 and 20,200 Koreans reside in Myanmar and Thailand, respectively, according to the ministry. (Yonhap)
